Art and Media Technician (Term Time Only + 2 weeks)

Job Introduction

We are looking for a highly organised, enthusiastic and proactive Art Technician to join our Creative Media & Art team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in supporting both staff and students across a broad range of creative disciplines, helping to create an inspiring and safe learning environment where creativity can thrive.

Working closely with lecturers and the Curriculum Manager, you will prepare resources, maintain specialist workshops and studios, manage equipment and materials, and provide practical support across our Creative Media & Art curriculum.

This is a part-time, term-time only position, ideal for someone with a passion for the arts who enjoys working in a busy educational environment.

About the Role

As Art Technician, you will:

• Prepare equipment, materials and resources for practical lessons.
• Support teaching staff across a range of Art and Creative Media subjects.
• Maintain studios, workshops and the Apple Mac suite to a high standard.
• Ensure all learning environments are clean, organised and compliant with Health & Safety requirements.
• Manage stock levels, place orders and organise materials and equipment.
• Operate equipment loan systems for cameras, photographic resources, portfolios and specialist equipment.
• Prepare stretchers, armatures, casting equipment and a variety of 3D materials.
• Support the installation and presentation of student exhibitions.
• Sell materials to students, maintaining accurate financial and stock records.
• Promote safe working practices and contribute to safeguarding the welfare of all learners.

About You

We're looking for someone who is practical, organised and enjoys supporting creative learning. You will have:

Essential

• A good standard of education, including GCSE Maths and English (Grade C/4 or above) or equivalent.
• A Level 2 qualification in Art or a related creative subject.
• At least two years' experience in an educational, industrial or commercial environment.
• Experience across a range of art disciplines, including areas such as Fine Art, Photography, Graphics, Textiles/Fashion or Multimedia.
• Experience managing stock, equipment and workshop areas.
• Excellent organisational and time management skills.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Knowledge of Health & Safety requirements within practical environments.
• Practical skills including preparing stretchers, textile equipment, photographic chemicals and exhibition displays.
• An understanding of safeguarding and a commitment to creating a safe, inclusive learning environment.

Desirable

• Experience working within Further Education or with students.
• Experience using Apple Mac computers.
• A Level 1 IT qualification (or willingness to achieve one).
