Team Leader in Mechanical Engineering

About the Role

Reporting to the Director of Curriculum , you will provide day-to-day leadership for the Mechanical Engineering curriculum, ensuring high standards of teaching, learning and assessment while supporting curriculum development, learner achievement and continuous improvement.

Alongside your teaching responsibilities, you will work collaboratively with colleagues, employers and industry partners to ensure our curriculum remains current, engaging and aligned with the needs of the engineering sector.

Key Responsibilities

You will:

• Lead and support the Mechanical Engineering curriculum team to deliver outstanding teaching, learning and assessment.
• Inspire learners to achieve their full potential through engaging, inclusive and industry-relevant teaching.
• Monitor learner progress, attendance, achievement and retention, taking timely action where required.
• Coordinate curriculum planning, schemes of work and learning resources to ensure high-quality delivery.
• Support the development and implementation of the curriculum area's Self-Assessment Report (SAR) and Continuous Improvement Plan.
• Mentor and support new and developing teaching staff, promoting best practice across the team.
• Coordinate curriculum activities, internal verification, standardisation and quality assurance processes.
• Maintain and develop high-quality digital learning resources through the College's Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).
• Act as a Personal Tutor, providing academic and pastoral support to learners.
• Build positive relationships with employers and external stakeholders to enhance learner opportunities and curriculum relevance.
• Contribute to learner recruitment, marketing events, open evenings and employer engagement activities.
• Ensure compliance with safeguarding, health and safety, equality, GDPR and College policies.

About You

We are looking for someone who brings both technical expertise and inspirational leadership.

You will have:

Essential

• A minimum Level 4 qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• A recognised teaching qualification (or be working towards one).
• GCSE English and Maths at Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent).
• Successful experience teaching Mechanical Engineering or related engineering programmes within Further Education, Higher Education or industry training.
• Experience of delivering high-quality teaching, learning and assessment.
• Excellent organisational, communication and digital skills.
• Current knowledge of engineering industry practices and emerging technologies.
• A commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusive learning.

Desirable

• Higher level qualification in Mechanical Engineering.
• QTS/QTLS or willingness to achieve.
• Experience of curriculum leadership, course coordination or team management.
• Experience of mentoring teachers or supporting curriculum quality improvement.
• Experience as a Personal Tutor.
• Assessor and/or Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) qualifications.
