Student Services Advisor (Term Time Only)

Job Introduction

We are seeking a proactive, organised and student-focused Student Services Advisor to join our Student Services team. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who is passionate about supporting learners to overcome barriers to education and achieve their full potential.

As a Student Services Advisor, you will play a key role in supporting student attendance, retention, achievement and progression, with a particular focus on the administration and monitoring of student financial support. You will provide advice and guidance to students, parents, carers and staff, ensuring that eligible learners can access the financial assistance and support services they need to succeed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality information, advice and guidance to students, parents, carers, tutors and other stakeholders regarding financial support and student services.
  • Process and administer bursary, hardship, childcare and other student support funding in accordance with college procedures and funding body requirements.
  • Assess applications, including calculating household income from supporting evidence to determine eligibility for financial support.
  • Monitor and track students receiving financial assistance using college management information systems (MIS).
  • Liaise with students and curriculum teams to ensure support payments are made in line with attendance and funding regulations.
  • Promote bursary and financial support schemes to maximise student awareness and participation.
  • Provide pastoral support and signpost students to appropriate internal and external services where required.
  • Support vulnerable learner groups, including care leavers, looked-after children, young parents, young carers and other students who may require additional assistance.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with data protection, safeguarding and confidentiality requirements.
  • Produce reports, statistics and case studies to support service improvement and funding requirements.
  • Contribute to the wider Student Services function and support departmental initiatives and projects as required.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has excellent administrative and organisational skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Has experience of working in a customer-focused or student-facing environment.
  • Is confident handling sensitive and confidential information.
  • Has the ability to interpret evidence and apply policies and procedures accurately.
  • Demonstrates strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Is committed to supporting learners from diverse backgrounds to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Can work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Has good IT skills and experience using databases and management information systems.
  • Understands the importance of safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion.
